About OneLetter
We turn confusing official letters into plain English, so you can understand what a letter means and what to do — without wading through jargon or paying for advice you don't need.
What we do
OneLetter helps people in the UK understand official letters — from HMRC, councils, courts, the DWP, enforcement agents, the NHS, banks, and housing bodies. You can upload a letter (or paste its wording) and get a free instant overview of what it is, who sent it, whether there's a deadline, and how urgent it really is. If you want a full plain-English explanation of what it means for you and what to do next, that's our optional paid Ultra Breakdown.
We built OneLetter because official letters are often written for administrators and lawyers, not for the person receiving them — and that gap causes real worry, missed deadlines, and money lost. Our job is to close that gap in language anyone can follow.
How our explanations are researched and checked
Every explanation on this site is written in plain English and checked against official guidance — primarily gov.uk, along with trusted independent sources such as Citizens Advice. Where a letter type involves specific figures, deadlines, or legal steps, we cite the official source on the page so you can verify it yourself, and we review our content when the rules change (for example, when enforcement fees or tenancy rules are updated).
Each guide shows a "last reviewed" date so you can see how current it is. If you ever spot something that looks out of date or wrong, we want to know — email hello@oneletter.uk and we'll check it.
What we are not
OneLetter provides information, not legal, financial, or medical advice, and we are not a law firm, a debt adviser, or a government service. Our explanations help you understand a letter and your general options; for complex situations you should speak to a qualified professional or one of the free services below. We have no connection to HMRC, the DWP, HM Courts & Tribunals Service, or any other body that might have sent your letter.
Your privacy and your letter
We treat your letter as private. It's encrypted in transit, stored securely, used only to produce your overview or breakdown, and deleted within 30 days. We never sell your data, and your letter is never used for advertising. You can also redact names, addresses, and reference numbers before uploading if you prefer. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.
